Developer Experience & DevEx

More time to develop products. Fewer obstacles for your teams.

New developers take too long to make their first change, builds keep teams waiting, and important information is hard to find. We improve the working conditions of your development teams by addressing specific bottlenecks. Clear tools, timely feedback and repeatable workflows help teams deliver software with less avoidable effort.

Your options

Services that move your project forward

Identify obstacles

Interviews and observation of typical tasks show where waiting times and interruptions arise. We combine team feedback with suitable process data.

Your benefit

Your investment addresses observed bottlenecks and the needs reported by your teams.

Simplify onboarding

We connect access provisioning, local setup and the first code change into a coherent onboarding process. Checklists and templates reduce avoidable questions.

Your benefit

New team members find a reliable start more quickly.

Organize development environments

We standardize appropriate parts of environment setup and document necessary differences. Dependencies, configuration and secure access are considered together.

Your benefit

More consistent environments and errors that are easier to reproduce.

Improve build and test feedback

Long running times, incomprehensible errors and unstable tests are investigated. Feedback should come early enough to make decisions easier.

Your benefit

Less waiting and more targeted troubleshooting.

Make knowledge and standards usable

Documentation, architectural decisions, and examples are given a findable place. Templates facilitate meaningful standards without blocking any special case.

Your benefit

Less searching effort and better common understanding.

Evaluate improvements together

We agree on team goals and look at time spent, interruptions and feedback in context. Improvements are prioritized according to their actual impact.

Your benefit

A continuous improvement process with understandable criteria.

Where to start

Developer Experience & DevEx Use cases

Three example situations show how we can help.

Make the first working days more productive

A new developer has to discover many setup steps independently. A tested onboarding process brings together access, environment setup and a suitable first task.

Relieve slow pipelines

Developers often wait for identical checks. We analyze runtime proportions, meaningful parallelization, and the order of feedback.

Establish cross-team standards

Multiple teams solve similar tasks differently. Jointly developed templates and examples facilitate reuse and deliberate exceptions.

From requirements to results

A clear process with agreed milestones

  1. Understand everyday development

We look at specific tasks and collect obstacles from the point of view of the teams involved.

  2. Choose an improvement

A clear bottleneck is given a measurable target state and a limited scope of implementation.

  3. Try it out with the team

Tools or processes are put to practical use and improved based on real feedback.

  4. Make the improvement sustainable

Clear ownership, documentation and regular reviews keep the improved workflow maintained.

Your benefit

What you receive

  • Prioritized DevEx roadblocks with tangible impacts.
  • Improved onboarding, build, or development flow.
  • Reusable templates and understandable documentation.
  • Team-related criteria to check the impact.

SYNEDAT PLATFORM

Platform experience for your project

We use these selected tools in SYNEDAT PLATFORM or its delivery processes. We adapt suitable practices to your project and align their integration with your existing systems.

From source code to verified artifacts

Azure DevOps · GitLab · Jenkins · Harbor · Nexus

Version control, build processes and artifact repositories make software versions traceable. Our platform approach connects these activities with defined checks and approvals. For your project, we select tools that fit your teams and existing processes.

Your benefit

A clear delivery process and traceable software versions.

Developer access and shared knowledge

Backstage · code-server · Structurizr · Swagger UI

A service catalog, suitable development environments, architecture views and API documentation help teams find their way and work together. The focus is on useful workflows and maintained information. An additional portal alone does not remove an organizational bottleneck.

Your benefit

Less time searching and an easier start for development teams.

Questions before you get started

How does a DevEx project start?

We start with concrete tasks from everyday development, such as the first successful build or the release of a change. This provides the basis for a focused improvement project.

Do we need a developer portal for this?

Not necessarily. A portal only helps if it brings together relevant information and workflows in a meaningful way. Well-structured documentation or a better pipeline can be the more appropriate first step.

How do you measure developer experience?

We combine team feedback with relevant process measures, such as waiting time and setup effort. Individual metrics are interpreted in context. Ranking individual developers is not required.

Can DevEx improve software quality?

Fast, understandable feedback and reliable environments can make quality work easier. The impact depends on the selected improvements and should be reviewed by the respective team.

How do we prevent additional bureaucracy?

Standards are aligned with recurring problems and tested with the affected teams. Templates are intended to relieve work. Exceptions need a practicable way and a comprehensible justification.

Who has to be involved in the project?

In addition to developers, platform team, security, IT operations and product managers may be required. We clarify the responsibilities for the selected process and keep the first round as targeted as possible.

Can a single team be used as a pilot?

Yes. A pilot team can work on a specific bottleneck and check the effect. Only then is it decided which parts are suitable for other teams and where differences need to be taken into account.

What remains after a workshop?

The agreed scope includes prioritized actions, named responsibilities and tangible work products. Implementation and support can follow the workshop so that improvements become part of everyday work.
